Saturday Evening

Bonjour Everyone

I've been very tired but today I felt I could walk when I woke up. It must have been the chats we've had Ros thanks a lot you're a superstar!

I have been better but I do feel so tired now and just want to sleep. Haven't been out in Chorlton for a while as I feel safer in bed.

Good to see you Nick and Tony and thanks for the jelly supply-the chef will be pleased!

Lezza -I do miss you-hope the triathlon went well and you raised loads of money for HOSF-big hugs and thanks.

Lots of Love

Ali x

Hello mate,

Belle has just been feeding Ava and I thought I'd check to see if you'd up dated the blog. I was chuffed to see a new entry, but then it hurts to read that you are suffering. We are just glad that you have got such wonderful love and support from the staff of the hospice of which I am sure Ros is just one of many and of course from your immediate family and friends that are around you. We out here in cyber-space are feeling very inconsequental by contrast, but just want you to know that we are thinking of you constantly and trying to help you fight this fight with love and encouragement via our keyboards. We won't give up and we will never forget, so keep smiling and lets beat this thing.

Love

Russ, Belle, Cara & Ava xxxx

Hey Ali,

Checking the blog just before I'm heading off to bed and what a lovely surprise to read a note from you. Thank you so much for taking the time to write

You've got to do what's best for you and if that's sleep, then go for it. I've always been a big fan of my bed. Each time you wake you'll be surrounded by the people you love and we're all thinking about you too.

Sleep well, Ali. Sweet dreams.

We love you lots

Good morning Ali, I hope this sunshine is making the mighty oak grow big and strong and that you can see it from where you are. It was such a lovely surprise to see a new entry this morning.

We were outside yesterday playing in the new wigwam, I bought it for Rufus (no, no one else believes me either!) it was great. Bizarrely it is completely decorated with cowboys on the range, playing guitars, lassooing cattle etc not an Indian in sight, seems ironic really.

Anyhow, we have a bunch of maurauding vikings coming over, ok, not really, some friends and their mad kids, so I'd better get on.

Love to all team rainback and fellow bloggers

Hi Ali

Glad to see the post - hope you are feeling a bit better today - which I think is Sunday. Am a little off kilter as William Lawrance McCallion arrived in the world on Thursday afternoon! We are all well and happy - though have been reminded with a vengence the delights of sleepless nights!!

He is in post-food/newborn sleep mode, so am going to go and have a lie-down myself so sorry if my message is not the most interesting/witty or coherhent thing in the world! But we are thinking of you. It is a beautiful sunny day here in Bedfordshire and hoping you are feeling up for enjoying the sun down in Berkhamstead.

Keep smiling.

Hey Ali, Sleeps not a bad thing matey....Part of sleep's effect lies in hormones. During deep sleep, the production of growth hormone is at its peak. Growth hormone speeds the absorption of nutrients and amino acids into your cells and aids the healing of tissues throughout your body. The hormone also stimulates your bone marrow, where your immune system cells are born.
Melatonin, often called the sleep hormone, is also produced during sleep. This hormone inhibits tumors from growing, prevents viral infections, stimulates your immune system, increases antibodies in your saliva, has antioxidant properties and enhances the quality of sleep.....when you close your eyes keep thinking SHRINK...sweet dreams

Hi Ali

You definitely have to follow your body and if that means sleep and rest then sleep you must. I wish I (Amanda) had stayed in bed today - I crashed the car just after Paul had got it tidied up ready to sell! Didn't go down well at all! Oh well, no one was hurt and thats the main thing.

We knew it wouldn't be long before you had won over all the staff there! Now even Ros is blogging! You really are one of a kind!

Paul went to Holland and Holland the other day after a break of five months, and Chris who was the instructor on the day that you and Matt went, was saying you weren't bad shots for a pair of ski instructors!!

Thinking of you all, as always,

Paul, Amanda, Emma and Georgia

Thank you so much for updating your blog. It's not just the Conways that log on daily, its all those hundreds of bloggers waiting for your news.

What a wonderful dream you must have been having, waking to feel you were ready to get out of bed and walk. It was all those wishes for sweet and peaceful dreams that helped.

Today the weather is brilliant so we do really hope so much that you felt okay enough to go out into the garden. At last summer has decided to return!

Perhaps you have managed to watch the Canadian GP with your dad today as we know you enjoy that.

The staff at St Francis are wonderful in all they do for you Ali but do tell the chef to make sure that jelly doesn't melt in the sun today, otherwise it will be a fruit drink instead.

We are all thinking of you constantly Ali and sending you all our love and hugs as always. Much love too to your mum, dad, Jeanette, Simon, Jo and all the Rainback crew.

Hello there Ali,

We hope you managed to enjoy today's glorious weather.
I must say, I could have done with it being a wee bit cooler as I sweated through a 5K race this morning....! It was one of the many "Race for Life" charity runs for cancer research: Martin was there to support (he only had to hang around for 27 minutes; a Personal Best for me despite the temperatures!!) and of course we thought of you lots.

Here's hoping you have a better week than last week, much love and positive thoughts,

Dear Ali,

I have been following your blog ever since i added the HSVU group site to my facebook site - it has now become a daily ritual to check your blog before i head off to bed.

I am an „old“ venture – i left (although one never really leaves) in 1983 and so never got to meet you - unless you were a spotty little scout in some „gang show show“ ......singing out of tune somewhere at the front- i was a headless anne boleyn....I think you might have known my sister Jane.

Anyway, just wanted to send you a very big hello from Nuernberg- i would get some sausages in the post to you – but it seems that you only eat chocs and swig wine!!!. If you fancy a change the beer in Bavaria is very lecker and the sausages ebenso!

I admire your courage, your humour, the love that fills your blog – it sounds as if you are very great guy who is loved very much. You and your family and Jeanette are very much in my thoughts.

Sending you very much love.

Hi there,
Great to hear from you again.
Sending all our love, hugs and kisses to you, Jeanette, Mum, Dad, Si and family.
Do hope the sun is shining and that you watched the Grand Prix.
Must say not happy with the rainy cloudy weather in the Alps at the moment. John raced the Time Megeve today. He did okay but missed you being there as part of the team. John is still desperately trying to catch up with Dave Beattie who excelled himself finishing 8th. John caught up with Dougie and Summers and of course they shared a coffee and chatted about you.
I went hiking with the kids, George Beattie, Marie, Ashley, Alan and Ali today to the refuge above Pralognan. So proud of the kids walking all that way.
Missing you, lots of love,
Carolyn

Hey Ali,

Thought I'd pop on and say Hi. Hope you have been watching the race and are now concentrating on the footie.

I have spent part of today rearranging my sewing room and having a general tidy. Thing is, it's always seems to get worse before it gets better.

My husband and I have also spent the weekend trying to eat reasonably healthily and after two whole days it's DEFINITELY time for chocolate now. I may have to go back upstairs and see if I can distract myself with tidying for a little bit longer!

I've also been told about two new arrivals this weekend. Glyn my friend and colleague has been banging on for weeks about the fact he was going to get chickens.
He went off to a Hen Party (not that sort)to learn how to care for them. He ordered the Eggloo, he ordered three normal chickens and then on Saturday went to collect three "rescue" hens from a battery farm. He calls them Ex Bats.
For weeks we've been coming up with names - Hennifer, Yolko, Adrihen - you get the idea. There was the discussion over the fact that the Ex Bats may be naked as they lose their feathers in the cramped conditions and would Glyn have to knit them little jumpers - I swear I'm not kidding.
Then there was the discussion late one evening when we were all still working on the half year numbers as to whether male chickens actually have a...I can't say it. It seems they don't - just some kind of multi purpose vent. It's amazing the things I've been told about chickens over the last three months. Anyway, on my mobile this weekend I received a photo message showing me Glyn's first egg. Then shortly after that egg number two arrived. You'd think he'd laid them himself!
I'm hoping he'll use it to make one of his amazing cakes and will bring it, the cake not the egg, into work tomorrow. As I said, I've been good all weekend!

Ok well the desire for chocolate is getting stronger so I'm definitely going to have to immerse myself in the chaos of my sewing room for a while.

I hope you've had a lovely day and are resting well. We think of you all the time, Ali and we love you loads.

Dear Alistair,
wishing you well as always.... Love the photos that keep appearing on the site. Does ski teaching stay as fun as it looks in your photos or does it become just something you do ??? I get the impression that you all really enjoy it. The rare occasion I go snowboarding I enjoy it too but find it very tiring.....(my limit is maybe 5 hours)

We pray for you and prayers & well wishes to Jeanette & all the Rainbacks......

Thanks to the Blogger's feedback about sleep too I really need more my self too...

Went to Marseille for the first time yesterday with a car full of women. A very enjoyable day, liked Marseille, enjoyed the company & enjoyed the very very green countryside... Grape vines everywhere, trees etc etc

God bless

Hi Ali

Always good to read the blog, but sad that you are so tired. I havent had internet access for a couple of days so only just manged to read it. I have spent the weekend with my sister. We went for dinner with her work mates, and I got quite drunk(surprise, surprise!).

Me and my sis went to her caravan in Aberdovey saturday, for the night. It was SO hot Ali on the beach, I have got a sunburnt chest, which is attractive. It was absolutely beautiful, I wish you could have seen it. It's wonderful to spend time with her, and your situation makes me appreciate her much much more.

My love to Jeanette and mum and dad

Hey Ali!
Great weather today. Hope you're able to enjoy it either in the garden or looking out over it.

Blimey, all these bloggers popping sprogs! Apparently it can happen spontaneously as a result of too much blogging! Congrats to Jo - the latest blog arrival.

An old photo mysteriously surfaced the other day - goodness knows where from - of HVSU skiing in Leukerbad (through the tunnel from Kandersteg). Must be '92 or '93. In the photo: Lizzie Elston, Richard Turberville, Felicity Brooks, John Turberville, Ewan Murray, Dave Wharton, Mike O'Keefe, Russell Husbands, Jim Hepworth and Ali Rainback (in fetching lilac sweatshirt and yellow ski pants). There's someone else there too, could be Cris Mallandine, Neil Perryment or a girl - it always was hard to tell!!

Kandersteg was the time that Ben McNaught, in a drunken stupor, decided to have a shower at 3am and put his towel over the electric radiator in the shower room. The next thing we knew the block was filled with smoke, the fire alarm was going off and we were all outside in various states of undress.

Note to all non-HVSU bloggers - it wasn't always like that; just most of the time :-)

Ali! Keep picking up those vibes from around the world that are focussed on you and HOSF every minute of every day.

Stay strong, mate!
Love Ewan xxx

Hi Ali,

Hope you're a bit less tired this beautiful Monday morning. I'm feeling guilty as my husband's just taken a phone call from the school to say that our daughter Katie hasn't got any lunch! I was trying to be so efficient yesterday that I prepared everything except her sandwiches in advance, and then completely forgot about it this morning! Poor thing opened her lunchbox to find a drink, a yoghurt and a chocolate snack. Bad Mummy - I'll be in trouble later....

Off to Annecy by train on Thursday, so am looking forward to that. I'll think of you when I'm there - I know it's a special place for you. The weather forecast looks a bit grim though!

Congrats to the bloggers who have produced offspring in the last week or so - hope all is going well for you.

Dear Ali
Hello Ali

I am sorry to hear that you are so tired but very glad to hear from you. Like the photos.

Well, as you have already read the Time Megeve was this weekend. Luckily there was a break in the minky weather we have been having and the sun came out for the Sunday -phew. The Col de Colombiere was bad enough without it being freezing cold as well so I was quite happy.I definitely thought of you as I struggled up those hills - especially the first one 2 Kms from the top. So thanks for helping me get there :-) -much appreciated.

It was good to see John and Dave Beattie (although I really have no idea how they manage to get round so quickly -superhuman if you ask me) and Dougie was also there. I managed to rope 3 other chicks (2 of who know you) into it this year They of course all whipped my ass but as I am office- bound these days I have a good excuse :-)

Love to all the clan. Thinking of you all.

Hugs
Summers

Hi Ali,
Cheeky boy with the lezza comment!
Anyhow, sounds like all the bloggers have been busy travelling around, running 5k, getting sunburnt, etc.
It was lovely to see Jeanette yesterday, we had a scrummy lunch in a little tea room in Berkhampstead & then went for a walk along the canel but you probably know all this already.
I've nearly raise a £1000 for the hospice...not bad for a week's work! I finished the triathlon as well, in 1 hour 35mins, pretty good for a first attempt (I beat some of the boys too- teehee!). Rach says I'm just showing off ;-)
I hope you are getting a chance to appreciate this lovely weather...it means you should be allowed to eat lots of ice cream! Yum.
Thinking of you, all my love, Nikki x

Hey Ali,

Glorious sunshine here in Colchester. Hopefully the same with you in Berko. Get the bed wheeled out into the garden and some Pimms down your neck.

I feel like a headless chicken at work today so have come home for some lunchtime calm and to book some flights down to visit the elderly in Cornwall. Bless'em.
They send you lots of love though and big hugs.

There was no cake from Glyn today as he is not in but a text to say there have now been 4 eggs and also a chicken injury. One of his ex Bats fell off the ladder up into it's Eggloo and broke its wing. I'm not sure what first aid measures have been put in place but I will keep you informed!

Keep smiling Ali, don't doubt we're thinking of you.

Lots of love

Hi Ali,

I am writing to you from sunny (Not!) Spain, as it is raining as we speak. I came over here for some sun and as of yet have hardly seen it!

Mo, his brother in law and a friend have just spent the last week riding down on their motorbikes to Barcelona, where I drove up from alicante to meet them on Friday.
We went to see the Barcelona Moto GP race live, it was absolutly fantastic, especially as the rain managed to hold off for most of both days.
Just being there, sitting on the grass beside the track, surrounded by thousands of people, with the amazing noise of all of the bikes racing past, is an amazing feeling. The Spanish crowd went bonkers when Pedrosa won, but well deserved. Also quite facinating to see some of the 125cc and 250cc guys crash right infront of us, it looked sore!

But like you, I prefer the Formula 1 anyday and would love to see it live. I even managed to see the race after I got back from the GP and can you believe the maddness of the race, it was great!

I am still in spain for another week while Mo heads back to the Uk on the bikes, lets hope that I see some sun and manage to get a tan at some point!

Look after yourself and all of the lovely people that you have round you. Sleep as much as you like, it is good for you (that is what I say anyway)

Lots of love,
Sally & Mo xxx

Sleep peacefully Ali and have lovely dreams. Eat nice things and keep on smiling.

Dear Ali
We are thinking of you up here in the Highlands. The rain has started now, which usually means that the rest of the UK is bathing in beautiful sunshine. I do hope it is shining on you and team Rainback. News today, well, our new kitchen has arrived on schedule (very unusual for Skye)and even the builders showed up! So, the chaos begins....2 young and hungry children and no kitchen....Ahhhhhh! I do hope you are still enjoying some of the tasty food you described. Sorry to hear you are so tired, I wish we could bottle up some of our energy and post it to you. Hope you can get a bit of time in that lovely garden tomorrow. Thinking of you everyday and remain full of admiration for your courage and strength.
