Hi folks. Just a quick post tonight because I'm a bit under the weather. Been sick all day and now they want me in for an MRI Scan tomorrow. I guess it's to check that I'm OK.
Fat Nick kindly took me in and out today and looked after me because I was a bit dizzy and jumpy. Thanks Nick - you were a star today, you really were. I know what you're going to say "We roll like this Ali" ha ha.
That was it, I got home and went to bed, woke up and wrote this. I've got lots of nice exciting things to write about the MRI so please come back and read tomorrow and leave a lovely message for us....please do.
Love to you
Ali

Hi Ali
Hope tomorrow goes ok and they manage to find out why you are being sick. Luce wonders whether it was the thought of her driving you tomorrow that has brought it on??!! Only joking.
Will call tomorrow or Friday.
We are all rooting for you, lots of love, julia, jumbo, luce and hugo xx
Hi Ali,
Good to speak with you last night. I would normally make a recommendation for your playlist but all I seem to listen to these days is the Wiggles.
Is there a song titled 'England are not going to Euro 2008'?
Will call again in a few days.
Take care,
Julian, Brinda and Harry
Well done Ali. Today was not a good one but you got through it and you're still smiling despite the sickness and the terrible headache. You are lucky to have such good friends and Nick has proved that he is one of the best-he really looked out for you today! Thanks from me too Nick.
Sorry Jeanette has gone back to France so now you'll have to put up with me again until Christmas! It was great having you and Simon at home tonight sharing some good memories and having a laugh together just like old times.
Keep positive and be true to yourself.

Hey Ali
Really sad to hear that you feeling under the weather.. I hope today is better... perhaps you can take comfort that it is a bit like eating healthy food - if it feels punishing you know it must be doing you some good...
A few words from the Welsh poet RS Thomas that I find quite comforting:
A traveller
with a moon's halo
above him, who has arrived
after long journeying where he began, catching this
one truth by surprise
that there is everything to look forward to..
Keep looking forward.
Sending all my love and hugs to you and Jeanette

Hey Ali.
I have just discovered your Blog. (I didn't know what one was till this morning and I've spent all morning reading every comment and eevery entry - don' tell PK, I'm supposed to be working.)
This is a great idea. I've been thinking about you a lot and was going to write you a letter, but now I realise that letters are so last century! It's mad because we have only met once and yet I feel as though we are friends. It's like Sean says, it's a knack you have with people. You are a really special person.
I hope you come up to Aviemore to visit if you can. I will be in London on 5th and 12th Jan seeing off the GAP students so I may be able to visit, if you are up to it. Otherwise Roz and I will be in London again at the end of February for the One Life Show, although spending time with Roz can be a bit like how you describe the Buzzymachine. Your head feels a bit frazzled and sensitive afterwards and your sometimes left with a sore face - it's cos she's from Glasgow.
I hope the MRI scan went well today. Thinking of you always.
Lots of love and positive thoughts,
Deb (BASI) xx
PS. A festive joke for you:
What is Santas' Favourite pizza?
Deep pan, crisp and even!

Sitting in Italy on the boat and working away. I stop every now and then and sit on the deck looking up at the mountains with their snow capped peaks, their peace and their splendour and I think about you and how you are ticking on. Ti sei GRANDE!!! I went to see Si, Jo and the boys before I came back and dropped of a little crazyness for them to deal with. Thinking of you all every day, all the time.

Hi Ali
Hugh Pelling here
Read your blog man and I'm glad your staying strong, don’t get angry, but channel it, be strong, positive and get through this thing.
I know you will, you’re that type of bloke. Always have been and always will be!
Hope to see you soon and hang in there.
I'm sorry to say for this weekend,
“Come on your Spurs!!!!”
Hugh
Hello everybody,
Ali has asked me to post a few words as he is unable to do so himself today as he is back in hospital. He was sick all yesterday and last night and, despite taking some strong painkillers, still had a stonking headache. His mum, dad and brother took good care of him and took him to A&E in the middle of the night.
They did an MRI scan as they are worried about the build-up of pressure in his head. They were debating whether to perform a "shunt" (from what I understand, a shunt would require putting him under GA and going into his head to drain off the fluid) but they decided not to. He's on a drip to rehydrate him and to make sure he gets his medicines into him and he's also been on morphine.
Hopefully he will be back home tomorrow.
I'm loving reading all your comments - I know Ali really appreciates them... apart from Emily's advice on going to watch the Golden Compass... WHAT WAS that about?!?! Ali enjoyed his kip during it - I could tell from the snoring!!

Hi Ali
It's amazing to think that before this all happened I knew you were skiing in France and probably saw you once a year. Now I know about every vomit, tablet, bowel action and meal you have!!! IT's great reading.
Hope the doctors and nurses are treating you well and you get home soon. Keep thinking positive, take one day at a time(sometimes it will be two steps back, one step foward -but you can do it!)and remember -
'Our lives are like the course of the sun.At the darkest moment there is the promise of daylight.'
Lots of love
Jemma
The MAN!
Everyday here, so hope I didn't cause much noise. And the rest of us were not very loud logging in and writing here :)
I've been thinking of you and I've talked to a friend of mine. She is my Master of inner arts :)
I do not know would you believe me or not, but she is working right now with two girls with cancer on different stages. And both of them are getting better.
I've asked her about you, about the possible inner reasons. And she told me that you should abandon the material world in your mind and concentrate on the space inside you. It’s like saying “good bye” to your habits and desires, and “hello” to a new you. You should leave everything behind for some time and then it all could be yours forever, but in different way.
I know it may sound weird, but I've been convinced hundred times that leaving your previous way of life and your views could make an amazing result on your health. At least on our health.
I'm with you, my friend! Sorry for my advises if they are stupid
Keep going!!!!
Ilia.
Hi Ali
Went for a curry at Kutis with the family last night and Mike told me what has been happening with you. I'm gutted for you mate but knowing the person you are I'm certain you will beat this. You'll beat it because you're a fighter and because you're one of the good guys.
It goes without saying that, along with the entire Osman clan I'm rooting for you Ali.
The slopes of Courcheval need the Rainback and, from a purely selfish angle, so do I - who else is going to coax me and Mike down a black?
Not to mention the small matter of writing an England song even though the berks made a mess of qualification for Euro 2008.
Now I've got the address of your blog I'll write regularly and keep tabs on your progress. You take care mate.
Cheers
Tony Osman
PS Up the Gooners - what a season they're having by the way.
Hi Ali,
Lovely to see you and Jeanette on Sunday and thanks so much for the flowers; beats an out of date 'mouldy' box of chocolates any day!
Nick phones us today to tell us the news. Sorry to hear you are back in hospital but expect you will be out soon. The morphine is fabulous but gave me weird dreams!!! Better not take too much!!! You could get used to it!!!
Looking forward to seeing you and Jeanette in the new year. beef again or something different?
Thinking of you every day and also of your parents and Jeanette. (Its the carers sometimes who also need a hug).
Love Mum and Dad Haller xx
Dear Ali,
I so hope that the morphine is helping you out and that you will be back to ticking off those buzzy machine sessions soon.
This quote is a reminder of how many people are by your side right now;
"no man is the whole of himself; his friends are the rest of him".
With love and affection to you and all who are close to you,
Clare W x
Glad to report that Ali was feeling a lot better tonight when we left after an awful start to the day.
We were worried because his headache was so bad and he was unable to keep anything down. Everyone at Royal Free was so kind and caring and it was such a relief when the morphine kicked in and he was able to manage the pain. Thankfully he settled down and they were able to do the MRI scan, which showed a lot of swelling, and finally they decided to treat him with drugs rather than surgery and keep him under observation for a while.
He's coping very well but it's taking more effort now to keep smiling so please do continue to support him as it really boosts his morale.
Thanks to you all for your love and kindness and be assured that it is well received.
Much Love
Diana and Ian xx
Hi Ali,
You don't know me cos I am a friend of a friend who heard about your blog.
However I just wanted to let you know of a patient of mine whom I saw this week. He had his glioma frazzled in 2002 and also had tough time with the radiotherapy. But he is fine now and back to his usual annoying self!
I am sure your positive spirit will mean you cope better than he did. Hopefully the drugs kick in quickly and settle the inflammation so you soon feel better.

Hi Ali, I hope you're feeling a bit better today, we are all looking forward to your next post.
I'm sending you lots of positive vibes and hope you manage to get your appitite back by Christmas day (you can't leave Jeanette to eat all the yummy things).
I'm being kept up to date all the time on your progress and we're all missing you here in the office.
Keep strong, lots of love and Christmas cheer, Simone xxx
Hi Ali, Heard you haven’t been feeling too good this past couple of days. Here's a funny story to cheer you up...
This story happened a while ago in Brisbane, and even though it sounds
like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's true. John Bradford, a Sydney
University student, was on the side of the road hitch hiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a storm.
The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door, just to realise there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on!
The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road and saw a curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life. Then, just before he hit the curve, a hand appeared through the window and turned the wheel. John, paralysed with terror, watched how the hand
repeatedly came through the window but never harmed him.
Shortly thereafter John saw the lights of a pub down the road so,
gathering strength, jumped out of the car and ran to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the
horrible experience he had just experienced. A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realised he was crying and...... wasn't drunk.
Suddenly two other people walked into the same pub. They, like John,
were also wet and out of breath. Looking around and seeing John
Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other, "Look,
Bruce.......there's that idiot that got in the car while we were
pushing it."
Hope your feeling a little better. Thinking of you!
Andy Lowi
Hey there Ali, I hear from Simone (via Jeanette) that you have had your scan and they have filled you with lots of drugs to make you feel better...I hope it's working? :-)
We are missing you out here, we've had past gap students in the office today asking after you, so I have read them the last entry of your blog.
All else is going well and we're looking forward to seeing you out here soon. Stay strong & keep smiling!
Love, Nix & the Meribel team xxx
PS Also saw funniest thing the other day...Lee on ski's - HILARIOUS!!! I think he needs a lesson...or perhaps I do? I was laughing so much I crashed straight into him, heehee! I will send you a photo, it should make you smile :-)
Hi mate, hope that MRI went ok.
We just got back from New York, it was absolutely freezing but we had a great time, bought loads of stuff and saw a few sights. Food was great as well, speak to you soon mate.

Hi Ali
Sorry to hear you're having a tough time this week. Keep positive and know that all your friends are with you every step of the way. If anyone can beat this you can. The girls want to send you some of their energy to keep you going through this rough time - so here it is!!!
We are all thinking of you.
Love
Amanda, Paul, Emma and Georgia xx
Hi Ali
Hope you are feeling better today. Thinking of you such a lot and keeping everyone here informed of your progress.
Here is a rather un-PC joke for you, but what the hell...
Following the outrage that was caused recently in Sudan following the naming of a teddy bear 'Mohammed', Sooty has decided to postpone his tour of Jamaica...
lots of love and positive vibes
ps It seems to me you have a rather remarkable woman by your side too. All the more reason to hang in there!

Jeanette - I am very embarrassed at my terrible taste in films - I seriously thought it was AWESOME! My office room mate has just told me that is because I have the mind of a child - I don't know what to say..
Will try harder next time...!
Emily C xxxxx
Hi Ali
Godd to hear you're on the up again. Also good to hear you fell asleep during the bloody Golden Compass. I think I can beat that..... I took my youngest to a party in Clapham, found the local cinema to waste some time and bought a ticket. I was told the film had JUST started, so rushed in, but couldnt understand a thing that was going on. An hour later the bloody credits rolled. I walked out and found I'd gone to the 8.00 pm not 9pm show. I found the 9.00 pm screen, rushed in, just in time to catch the bit I'd walked in on the first time. What a prat.
Chin up, we're all here rooting for you
Love Tim P
Hi ali (plus Jeanette and Ali's Mum)
dude seems like the zappy machine and drugs tough love continues.
Can they tune the radio waves they fire at your head to radio 2 - they have some good music (maybe they are playing it a bit loud hence why you have a head ache.)
Ali you are a hero, and we love you
Tim
