Dear Ali,
Every note that has been written has been and will continue to be a pleasure. You have cornered the nice guy market and made us laugh and cry along the way.
Been up since 5.15am with the boys! Why are children not programmed to tell when it is the weekend ah?
I said to my tutor group who left yesterday for University and work etc that if my boys turn out anything like you lot, then I will be the proudest dad alive. I am sure this is how Ian and Diana must feel every day mate.
Take care and keep up the fight and the nurses on their toes of course. Any chance of a go in that banana bath by the way?
Love and best wishes as always,
Ian and Lindsay Parker xxx
Bonjour Ali,
Good wishes and lots of love flying your way from cloudy France! Mother's day here this weekend and I'm cooking Roast Pork ( I only cook Beef for the best people!) for Wendy and Colin. Everyone here in our little part of France send their love and best wishes to you. Keep smiling and laughing Ali; it will make the nurses wonder what you have been up to!
Love and hugs.

Hi Ali,
We're not going anywhere yet either ... still reading your blog every day, even if we don't comment. We were getting a little worried about you there for a moment, but all along you've been getting pressies, guzzling wine and keeping busy doing the gardening!! Lots of rain for your oak tree today! Love, Julie & Mark x
Morning Ali,
Bit drizzly today but a good day to read up on things....especially our watches!!...Which take a bit of doing! I am still figuring mine out, like so many gadgets you tend to use the bits you know well and never quite master the whole mechanism but I am going to set aside some time, hopefully, to work it all out properly!!! You can help me now! Yours looks a bit more 'Hip' than mine....have you got your heart rate strap on? Quite interesting.
Hope the Bank Hol goes Ok for you all and great to hear from you, as always you are a complete inspiration Ali. Thinking of you all lots. Much love and thoughts, Sally & family X
Hi Ali,
I was so looking forward to nipping up to see you this week in St Fanny's,but had to pull out of at the last minute. I was so disapointed. I thought we could spend some time sitting on the dock of the bay watching the boats come in and then go out and come back in again............(it's an in joke).
The flip side is got to eat the curly wurly's and jelly babies that Nicki had bought for you.
Glad to hear your feeling better than you did mid-week. Well enough to watch the Monaco Grand Prix with your Dad I hope,as I know that was the plan. You never know somebody might over take on the track........that'll be a first!
Just checked out that clip of you waterskiing on You Tube. Brilliant stuff,I was laughing out loud.
In the book section of The Times yesterday there was a quote that read " People who light up rooms are seldom nice". What utter rubbish! Who ever wrote that had never met the amazing Ali Rainback.
Take it easy big man. My thoughts are with you as ever.
Hugh.
hello ali,
I hope it's sunny with you - cloudy here in chamonix, but reading your blog brings the sun anyway...
at a mates wedding yesterday was chatting to (a quite drunk) jim kerr about you and there were some funny stories.. and some quite dodgy dancing too from the dour scot.. ha ha!
I hope you can get out in the garden a bit today,
lots of love to you all,
Katie

Hello mate,
Glad to hear you're not rushing off and this blogging lark with you is "Always a pleasure never a chore" so you just keep on keeping on.
Yesterday was our wembley trip with the cider boys facing the tigers and unfotunately the result didn't go to plan but we did have a great day out and the best of luck to Hull who now have the pleasure of having ever team in the premiership going to "Hull and back!" Today is Belle's birthday and my parents are coming over for a few days as the baby is due tomorrow but at present the wee one doesn't look like budging. keep you posted on any changes, keep smiling.
Russ, Belle & Cara xxx
Dear Ali,
Glad you're not going anywhere!
Arsenal -v- Hull in the Premiership - who would have thought it? sounds like a fairytale to me.

Hi Ali
So glad that you had a lovely day with Jeanette on her birthday, the pics are great.
I would imagine that you'll probably watch the grand prix later, so just to let you know,
Pa rang earlier to say there's heavy rain in Monaco this morning (only time he doesn't whinge about the rain!!) and should make for an exciting race, so enjoy!
Lots of love as always,
Sam and Vicky xxxx
hi Ali
Thank goodness! I am glad the messages help somewhat. You certainly are loved and cherished and it is so good that you are feeling a bit better.
lots of love
Kate
Hey Ali,
SO good to see another blog from you. We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know the latest at the Rainback Ranch.
I was dyeing the ever increasing grey hairs in the bathroom this morning when I heard an absolutely pitiful "mieoooooooooooooowwwwwWWWW" from outside. The cat had gone out in the rain and realised that rain is WET! We grabbed a towel and went to the rescue, expecting a soaking wet bundle of fur and discovered that he was only mildly moist - such a fuss - wouldn't get that from a dog! He took great delight in rubbing his wet fur against our bare legs - little bugger! Anyway, made me think of you soaking everyone in the shower and laughing through it.
Haven't taken the towel off the head yet so not sure of I'm grey, brown, orange or green, could be anything but has to be an improvement, as the hairdresser interpreted my "just a trim please" as "hack the top short, leave the bottom long - a mullet, that'll be lovely thanks!" Six months ago I'd have been in tears about it, now I figure "ah b*ll*cks to it. It'll grow...eventually."
Had our first BBQ of the season last night - was very exciting and we were so stuffed we could barely move indoors to watch the Eurovision results come through - 14 whole points to UK - is that better than last year - I can't remember. Terry's a little gem, isn't he?!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the race today and the rain (if you have it in Berko) doesn't dampen your spirits. That oak tree of yours could probably do with a good hefty drink anyway.
We love you lots, AllyBally

Well the sun's shining in Aviemore. I hope it lasts cos Common Theory week at Glenmnore and means guys will be doing their excerises outside the BASI Office in their shorts. Should help the day pass! Am sure none of them will rival your pins though, Ali.
Glad to hear that you ar eback to yourself afetr a rough couple of days. Fingers crossed for some sunshine down your way.
Lots of love to you all,
Debbie
Hi Ali,
You probably dont remember me but you took me on HALF my BASI course in Tignes in 2002 - the other half you spent on crutches after straight lining the Grand Raid !!!
Oh, and I'll never forget sitting on that chair lift with you and Lorraine talking about that fish restaurant where, "The fish is so fresh, even its next of kin havent been told" - I think we were still laughing when we reached the top !!!
If that doesnt jog your memory then maybe the day spent on twin tips in the Park will. You told us all that to be a good instructor we needed to "Inspire" those around us. You then sent us over a table top jump and I landed, tails first, on the apex of the run off. Poles, skis, sunglasses everywhere you rushed over to see if I was OK and I looked up at you, scraped the snow from my ears and said, "Are you inspired"??!!
I'm still not sure to this day if you bunked off the second week cos of your knee or cos of my shit skiing and shit jokes !!!
Anyway, you then managed to get me a job with Sue at Gosling. I was up there yesterday and thats how I heard about your blog and thought I'd say hi.
Now I'm not about to fill the blog up with sentiment and cliches cos you've probably heard it all before but what I will say is that I am on that long, long list of people whose life you affected.
As soon as someone mentions the word Courcheval I ask them, "Do you know Ali Rainback - he taught me" !! I never read the rest of the BASI mag, just the odd article you've written. And, I certainly wouldn't have enjoyed my time up at Gosling without your help in getting me there.
So listen, heres to seeing Arsenal lift more silverwear (nice shots with Theo and Arsene by the way - flash git!!!), watching France win Euro 2008 and Chemmy win a womens downhill - now THAT WOULD give you a headache !!!
Finally, the best ski instructor I ever came across once said, "INSPIRE the people around you" and I have to say, you do that with bells on.
Make sure you keep that cheeky grin of yours on your face.
Nev
Hey Ali, Give you Mum an extra special 'bisous' today its mothers day in France! So lovely to "hear" your bubbly self.
Have a fabby day.

Great to see your blog again today and we are even more pleased that all our heartfelt comments are keeping your spirits high. I (Chris that is) know from when I was seriously ill how much it lifted my spirits to know people were thinking about me. Having your own blog is such a wonderful way to keep in touch with everyone - blogs weren,t around when I was ill. Keep up the blogs Ali, we love reading them.
Sorry to hear the weather is not so good in Berkhampstead but at least you have the Monaco GP to watch with your dad and what a suprise it is raining there too.
David is taking a break to watch the GP and then it will be back to work in the garden at Sarah and Daniel,s.
Last night the four of us went to see "Indiana Jones" latest film. Great fun, all unbelievable stuff but very entertaining.
We will give your mum a ring when we get back from Sarah ad Daniel,s to catch up.
Have a great day Ali, enjoy the GP with your dad.
All our love and hugs as always

Hi Team Rainback
Relieved to read that you're feeling more "you", Ali. I read somewhere that Prof Pilkington's pill's take a few weeks to make their effects felt and have kept on hoping that they'd be working quietly away... that's if you're still taking them!!
Never giving up hope and still very much thinking shrink.
Enjoy the Grand Prix and the bank holiday.

Hi Ali,
Am loving the recent pics of you out on the lawn in the sunshine. A bit of sunshine is good therapy indeed for us all. Just back at home in UK spending some quality time with the family...have been looking forward to it for ages.
I hope Jeanette has passed on the big hug I asked her to give you!?
Keep smiling Ali, the world smiles when you smile.
All my love Janey x x x
Bonjour Ali!
So pleased to hear that you have had a good couple of days - long may that last.
I stupdily took part in a race (of the running variety) this morning and I was thinking of you. Do you remember racing up (yes that was UP) the hill on a walk in Courchevel & you easily out ran me?
Thank you for letting us know how you are doing & the lovely pictures. It's great to hear the updates. I hope the comments make you smile as much as they make me smile. There are some incredible comments.
Enjoy the Grand Prix.
Love,

Hey Ali

Hi Ali
Sorry that Hugh has eaten all the Jelly Babies and Curly Wurly's I bought for you! If it's any consolation, he eats my sweeties all the time!
Anyway - the good news is, today I am in Kuala Lumpur for work!Hurray! The trouble is, we think my luggage is in Sydney! At some point I'm sure I'll stop laughing about it and realise that only having one set of clothes in a very hot climate is going to be embarrassing....! Especially as I've already been wearing them for 24 hours ;-). Mmmmm.
lots of love,
Madame Hugh xxxx
Salut Ali,
I hope you have enjoyed the Monaco GP. What a good champion this Lewis!
Don't worry, you are not missing anything in Annecy... I don't understand, the weather is like in England at the moment (sorry for all the Brits!) we have lots of clouds...
I am sure, it is because the sun is missing your smile over here.
I think a lot about you.
Cheers mate,
Laurent
Hi Ali
You probably don't remember us but I'm Fat Nick's Dad's Cousin - we've met a couple of times, last time at Rich's Big Party last year and met Si at Toby & Ali's wedding. Been following your Blog all along and like lots of people I guess got a bit wobbly a few days ago.... But we're all with you my love! Love your comment about the watch!! Hang on in there Ali XXX Ruth & Malc
Hi Ali,
This is Anna's Mum - It is great to hear that you are being so well looked after, with your wonderful family and friends around you. You may remember that you gave me ski lessons a few years ago. I am very grateful to you for giving me the confidence to ski again (and enjoy it) when I really thought I was past it - however I still avoid doing Roc 'Manure' (as you called it) if I can help it!!
My grand daughter Emily (age 8) and I am staying with Anna and Grant for a few days. It is Marjories 1st birthay and my 60 something tommorrow. We went up to 1650 this afternoon as Emily wanted to see what Mickeys and Belvedere looked like with no snow - she was more interested that last summers cow pats were still there!! (We could have bagged some it up, and sent it over to put round your tree - can you imagine trying to get that through the airport security checks - I suppose it could be considered explosive)!
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless you and your family.
Love Julia Bickerdike
Hi Ali
So glad that you're feeling better- keep fighting!
Thinking about you loads and sending you best wishes...

Hi Ali
I'm happy to see you're smiling.
I was thinking of you today as I wrote my CV to apply for a job as a ski instructor next season! I think that in the end, actually it could be the best job in the world. Its a shame it's taken me a while to realise this, but I have had lots of fun along the way.
Thanks for all your inspiration.
Loads of love, Amanda x
Dear Ali,
Glad to hear you are feeling better again mate.
You more than deserve every note that has been sent. It´s your encouraging words which have had tremendous effect on my and many, many other peoples lives.
Keep on in there mate - remember when you kept on skiing in the Raid after knackering your knee - that reminds me of what a winner you are!
love & best wishes
Ant & Gudrun
P.S. Belated happy birthday to Jeanette
Bonjourno Ali,
Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better and are able to get out and about in the sun.
I'm having a terrible Monday. Lindsey's in Tokyo for a few weeks so i had a pink ticket at the weekend and took full advantage. am sick as a dog today.. i told her not to leave me on my own!
i keep getting flashbacks to that night when we started at my parents house in harpenden then took Arny (the brown escort with the paint stained carpet) over to the Brocket Chef's mate's house for a bit of redecorating then had to hide out in the field cause we accidentally broke a window.. happy days!
Am rooting for you mate. love from Hong Kong.

Hey Ali, soooo pleased to hear you're feeling better than this time last week. I'm also really please that you continue to write on this blog (it give me something to check everyday while here in the office). Stay strong, lots of love, Simone xx
Great to hear you re feeling better Ali. Hamilton came up trumps - hope you and your Dad enjoyed it. My Dad is a big GP fan and we visited Monaco with him and my Mum some years ago. It took us a while to realise we were walking down the hill on the circuit on that bendy bit!! It was raining like yesterday but it is still a treasured memory. The weather in Lancashire is lovely today - something to do with the Conways being in this neck of the woods I wonder? Just deciding whether to go to Fornby Point or Windermere but don't think we will be sailing in 25 MPH plus winds! Thinking of you all. The Edwards Family x
Hi Ali,
I just wanted to say that I am thinking about you. You have been a great inspiration to me and my skiing! Thanks for all of the help and support you have given me throughout my instructor training! Thanks to you I will continue to push my skiing ability, and one day I aspire to be a New Gen Instructor. Hang in there buddy, Thinking of you, Justin
Hi Ali,
Good to see that some time inside the wagons eating toasted marshmallows (and drinking wine apparently!) has given you back some energy.
Great photos. I think you're looking trimmer. Have you worked out how to put Chorlton on the turbo trainer or something?
Best things about today... reading the blog. The birds singing outside my window. For afternoon snacks, extra bits of the sticky chocolate cake with Bailey's ganache which I made for my friend's birthday.
Good to see you all digging for victory.

Am watching 'the sound of music' and am having flashbacks to us hunting out a pink plastic lobster in the centre of Salzberg... What was the 'lobster trophy' all about? ...Why did the girls never win?... An eternal mystery I fear.
Glad you are feeling a bit better

Hiya Ali & Team Rainback
Great to see your cheeky smile. Just had a flick through some of the pics and saw your visit with Nick to the Arsenal - what a day that must have been!
Have been thinking of buying a new car and my little girl Jessica (now 3!) has been helping me out. When I was sitting with her this afternoon and looking though your site she commented on your pics and I agree with her.....I cannot seem to find anything that matches your wheels so think I'll wait for a while.
Keep up the good work and lets hope there's a lot more sunny days this summer to get outside some more.
Lots of love
Graham, Sue & Jessica
Bon Jour Ali!
Great to hear you're feeling a bit more like it. Just back in from Norfolk Broads where I'd taken my parents for a couple of days. Good trip and I spent yesterday in a Canadian canoe paddling up a deserted backwater in the persistent rain...perfect! You and the team are constantly in my thoughts, but the river trip was so similar to our punting trip and the fact that I'd got all day alone to contemplate that trip along with all the others, just made me happy in a strange way. You are truly one great friend and top guy, just rubbish at punting!
Be Strong Ali. Lots of love, Fran
Hey Ali,
You may be rubbish at punting (and drinking) but you've always managed to whip our ar*es down the mountain eh!
Glad you are feeling a bit stronger and let those lovely people around you keep looking after you.
Keep on blogging, we are all addicted!
I hope to see you very soon honey
Lots of love

Hello Ali
Glad that you are feeling yourself again and that you are managing to keep us all updated. It is great to hear from you.
Sounds like you are being very well looked after.
Let us all know if you are up to visitors again as I would pop in next time I am in your neck of the woods. And I promise that I will bring cakes with lots of icing!

Hey Ali,
I just spent much of Saturday morning singing your praises with Carolyn and Dierdre. It was Bourg market day and I managed to persuade Nick to look after all the girls whilst we chatted over coffee.
From reading all the comments it is clear that you have touched many peoples hearts and minds. I still remember the day you sat in my living room encouraging me to go for it and start on the BASI thing, even with a babe in arms and having been around the block a few times!!
Thankyou soo much for all your support with my skiing.
I guess thats what it is about you Ali, you always seem interested, genuinely, in other people. You are an inspiration to us all. I never forget watching you rip it up on the Saulire face in a Free-ride competition many years ago - so fast!
It was really good to see you in February this year. It seems that you have lots of warmth and love around you. We are all thinking about you here in the alps.
Big hugs,
Sian, Nick, Lily and the new wee one Noah xx

We just wanted to wish you sweet and peaceful dreams tonight.
We have just got back from sunny Lancashire albeit very windy. We have to thank the Edwards family for their comment about the sun being in Lancashire probably due to our visit, well sadly our spell has been broken because upon our return South this afternoon we ran into heavy rain. I am sure your sunny smile has been lighting up Berkhampstead Ali and all those around you.
We are thinking of you constantly Ali and all the family. Keep up that positive spirit and wonderful smile, we love you that way.

Try not to watch too much Jeremy Kyle, that day time TV is not good for you..

Keep loving your Arse mate......

Hey Ali,
A day off all to myself - how WONDERFUL!!! What shall I do first?
Actually, I have a dress to make which I'll enjoy but then there's shopping to buy and a house to clean and washing and ironing to do - suddenly it doesn't look like such a fun day. Perhaps I'll forget about everything else except making the dress!
Have left a few messages on your voicemail as I don't have your Mum's mobile number, but it's probably well overloaded with messages from everyone now. It will take you an age to listen to them all!
Mum and Dad say the sun is shining in Cornwall while we have this rotten weather in Colchester. I hope it's a little bit nicer over in Berko so you can sit on your little patio, drink Pimms and toast those legs.
Thinking of you lots and sending loads of love.

Hi Ali
Boy, it was good to see your note today! You had us all a bit worried last week! My husband Andy who you met briefly in 1650 when we came out to see you did a 95 mile bike ride at the weekend, and confessed when he got back that during the hard or boring bits, he used you for motivation. He sends his thanks and regards, and wishes you well.
