Hi Ali, great news about the hair, not sure about the mullet though! A bit 1980s footballer for my liking! Anyway, I went for a bike ride last night around Kimpton & Peters Green and cycled past the famous Saxbys Land Rover Garage. Couldn't help thinking of you and when we both went up there to see Saxbys in his dress and make-up fixing Land Rovers. I can remember your impression of him and it still makes me laugh.

Anyway, keep blogging I know so many people who are following your progress.

All our thoughts are with you and your family.

Dearest Ali

Another wonderful day for you to enjoy. Hope you manage to get out in Chorlton for a ride around that beautiful garden and perhaps a spell under the sun umbrella on the patio, that would be great.

Must say sorry to Richard (Dinga) for stealing the show with our chocs, grapes and flowers, didn't mean to intrude but it was great to meet him again after all these years. At least Richard was repaid by a free taxi service back to the station by David! I bet those nurses can't wait for his return!!!

Forgot to thank Diana for the thirst quenching cup of tea yesterday - it certainly went down well. Hope you didn't forget to drink your's Ali on the bedside table.

Have a great day sunshine and keep up the good work. See you again soon.

Much love as always

Hi Ali,

Just back from a few days away with Brinda and Harry. We thought we would take the opportunity for one last holiday before the latest addition to our family arrives in a couple of months.

Great to hear you had a wonderful time with the Gunners. I still remember that you took me to my first football match at Highbury and I have been hooked ever since.

It was good of your Mum to take the time speak at length with me a few days ago. It is easy to see where you inherited your kind heart.

I will give you a call in the next day or so.

Hi Ali
Enjoying your blog and all the comments. Thinking shrink every day without fail.

Here's a Tommy Cooper joke for you to share ...

"Two Aerials meet on a roof - fall in love - get married. The ceremony was rubbish but the Reception was brilliant."

Well, it made me laugh!

Lots of love,

Ali,

I had forgotten about Saxby and his Land Rover garage, now I've got the giggles. I went up there with Maurice and he was very nervous around the lady herself.

Jo and I are off to Spain tomorrow to stay in the hills near Grenada with Jo's sister. 5 days of chilling, swimming, reading and writing my book. Yes writng a book and thinking of giving some of the proceeds to the Hospice.

Jo and I are planning to visit again when we are back, Sat/Sun 24/25th May.

I reckon the Hospice is a top place and am so pleased that you are being looked after so well. It must have cost millions to build and thousands to run so I'll definately be raising some money for them, I'll tell you my plans when I see you. If everyone who visits this blog donated £10 then that would be a lot straight off. Why stop at £10.... As I say I'll tell you when I see you.

Enjoy the weather, how's my baseball cap?!

All the best,

Marzie & Jo

Hi Ali,

Hope you had a relaxing day, enjoying the great weather again today.

On the subject of Tommy Cooper jokes from your friend Gill, here are a few more to give you a giggle:

Police arrested two kids yesterday. One was drinking battery acid and the other was eating fireworks.
They charged one and let the other one off.

My friend drowned in a bowl of
muesli. A strong currant pulled him in.

I went to a seafood disco last
week...and pulled a muscle.

I'm on a roll..they just keep coming!

Keep smiling,
x

Hey Ali,
Are you keeping those nurses keen? Hope so, joking apart, they were all lovely folk there. Well my 1st Nordic walking class was a success, even if I did cheat and use friends to make up a practice class. They loved it anyway and want to continue with the class. It looks as if it could take off. Just doing battle with insurances, council permissions etc at mo.
Do you remember filling the dumper up with rocks at kandersteg, and the subsequent visit to the docs? I bet Dr Bhuller still does!!
Be strong Ali. See you soon. Love Fran

Hey Ali,

Have just got in and thought I'd say Hi.
I remember the Landrover garage too - opposite the bluebell woods? Paula and I used to cycle past it REALLY fast!

On the jokes front - today one of my friends said (when I was whingeing about being a lardy arse) "You know Janey, there's two types of women. Those who like chocolate...and bitches!" I'd not heard that before and it made me laugh a lot.

Anyway, I hope you had a lovely relaxing day and enjoyed all your visitors. Great picture of the view from your patio.

Best thing about today was speaking to my Mum this evening. She'd felt so awful on Sunday and Monday she'd actually cancelled one of her Marie Curie nights and she NEVER cancels them. She had bloods taken this am to try to determine the problem but assures me she is feeling much better this evening.

As for the Guinness cake - if it causes hair to grow I think we have a whole new marketing opportunity. I can't claim credit for the recipe, only the manufacture. It's from Nigella's book called "Feast" and is in the section called The Chocolate Cake Hall of Fame. Some of the others are Chocolate Ginger Cake and Quadruple Chocolate Loaf Cake - oh yeah, it's a good book!

Anyway, I need to go and correct the data I've received from some of the numpties at work, so I will say goodnight, sleep well and lots of love to you, Big D and EEEEeeeeeeeYUN.

Thinking of you always.

J-A

Hey, Ali! Your blog never ceases to amaze! Not only do we keep up with what's going on, see what great inner strength you have and see what a vast circle of loving and caring friends you have, but I can pick up some Tommy Cooper one-liners for possible inclusion in Gang Show. Keep it up, mate!
I went to the doctor the other day and said "Doctor, I keep thinking I'm a dog". He said "I see; can you lie down on the couch please", I said "Oh, I'm not allowed on the couch."
Stay strong.

Hey Ali,
So I am going to start the 'think shrink' vibes from over here in Calgary, Alberta. I cannot tell you how moved and awe struck I am right now! I remember crazy downhill sessions with you on what was probably one of your very first ski trips!! finding all the jumps with you, Chris D, Graham W! Skiing in boxer shorts on the last day in Andora!! I remember yours were particularly colourful!!!
Above all I remember your huge grin and constant laughter!! And now I see you actually got GOOD at skiing!! and made a living from it!! and you're still as popular and smiley as ever!!

Well Louise Buchanan misses you and Simon! and wishes she could pop by for a chin wag - but like I say I am 'thinking shrink' for you in Canada and love every one of those teenage memories of days with you!!!!!!!!

Love to all of you over there

Hi Ali,

Well Andy Jerram's the hairdresser remember, when you want that trim...

What was that joke you told on our Grade 1 teaching, about 'taking the piss'?? (It was very long, so you don't have to relay it!! But it got us through the funicular queue...)

We're still getting regular snow falls here in Vail...Spring is verrrry slowww to arrive this year.

Thinking of you, Jeanette and your family every day.

Much Love Noni, Charley and 'the Girls' x

Oooh Matron!! Look at you in your banana bath. Did you make those bubbles yourself...

Another TC joke for you;

Man goes to the Doctors, Doctor says 'Hello, haven't seen you for a long time'. Man says, 'no - I've been ill'

Umm - about the mullet, I think you should maybe go for a curly perm instead.

Keep smiling!

Love Sheila (I used to be called The Matron by the guys at Salomon - not sure why. I think it was something to do with being smutty!)

Hope the weather is still beautiful there so you can enjoy the pond and gardens. It was lovely to see you last week..you were on such good form (thunderstorm afternoon!)...guess you've run out of pork scratchings by now (probably a good thing!!!). Back in France...sunny,overrun garden to sort and 'scruff' to amuse (think he should hear Ewans joke!).
St Francis's is a fantastic place and brilliant that they make you feel so comfortable and safe, and that you and Chorlton have places to explore and watch tadpoles....the bath looks something else!
Big hugs to you...Pipxx

Thanks Ali, just spat my tea across my desk at work when I saw the photo of you in the bath ! it looks like a boat to me, are you sure Dicky M didn't leave it there last time he was home on shore leave ?

I went to the Royal Albert Hall last night to see Chess, when they got to the last moving duet 'I know him so well' all I could thing of was Jemma Woods (finch) and Alison Kirk (or was it Harriet ?)singing the first part so beautifully and then us lot coming in for the chorus and completely murdering it !

Hey Ali, First post here coz Steve Wells can't spell, so took a few attempts to find it! Good news about the hair, so on that subject some hair news from other aquaintances in the EB organisation:

I (Miles) have just gone for a summer No. 2 so you've probably caught up with me already...

Robin (Manchester) is no longer mulleted, as he's now a semi-respectable golfer and has more of a 'Brad Pitt' going on. And a better handicap than me. grrr

James (ex Bristol Store) never had much hair anyway, so your new growth will be way ahead of his!

Anyway, the main point of putting this up was to let you know there's loads of people in the EB stores throwing a few thoughts your way, and hoping to catch up with you soon. Take care, and keep on with the Guinness cake, sounds more effective than chicken soup!

Robin
James
Et Al.

At last we can see the banana bath and with you in it too what a bonus that is!! You must be enjoying those lovely bubbles and enjoying even more those gorgeous nurses taking care of you. Most men would love to have that treatment!!!

We have been telling everyone about the Hospice and the gardens so it's great to share the view with all the bloggers. Did your mum spend hours watering the plants on Monday? The gardener left the hose for her so hope she didn't forget!!

We tried to ring you last night but got the answerphone. Just wanted to ask if we can come and see you Sunday morning as we are in Hertfordshire that day and it would be terrific to see you again. Perhaps your mum could give us a ring? Hope so.

Keep smiling Ali we are thinking of you constantly.

Hi Ali

Just typed you a message, hit the wrong button and it's now somewhere in the ether. Oh well, I'll just start again.

As you can see, we're back from our globe-trotting and have been catching up with your blog. So glad to see you safe and secure at St Francis, what an amazing place it looks.

Reading the names of some of your commentees reminds me of the days when Kate was a Ventue Scout and after meetings often would bring home the hoards to eat toast and marmite, usually helped by Daley the cat!

Do you remember the days when I taught you all tap dancing in the 3rds Scout Hut, what fun we all had!

Continuing the Tommy Cooper theme (take note Ewan, we expect to see a Tommy Cooper sketch in the GS some time soon!) these are our favourites:

A man went to the doctor, he said
"Doctor you've got to give me something for this terrible wind."

The doctor prescibed him a kite!!

A lady went to the doctor, she said
"Doctor, I'm really worried, I keep thinking I'm a pair of curtains."

The Doctor said "oh pull yourself together!" :-)

Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts still.

Love to you and all your family.

Ali, Love the recent photo's!! Brilliant! Hope this week has gone OK so far and that we keep this good weather. Sounds like you have been busy, great to see Dinga, say hi next time you speak with him, and many, many friends popping in for tea. Even better your hair growing too. Love to you all, as always...nothing to report here except Tom fell off his climbing frame yesterday, from a bit of a height....made me think that I must re-fresh my first aid.. + gave me a bit of a fright...poor wee mite has some pretty nasty bruising but thankfully did not quite pass out...mum shouting at him to come too!! Oh dear, boys and their toys! Thinking of you all lots. Love Sally XXXX

Hi Ali,

They always say laughter is the best medicine...here are some more (and my last you may be pleased to hear) medicinal TC jokes:

Our ice cream man was found lying on the floor of his van covered with hundreds and thousands. Police say that he topped himself.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, 'Parking Fine' So that was nice.

Two elephants walk off a cliff ... boom, boom!

I love the last one - very childish sense of humour! Hope they keep you going and it's great your blog site has become a source of TC jokes from all these closet TC fans!!

Tomorrow I think it's a Basil Faulty day if your up for it.

Keep smiling,
x

Hi Ali,
Love the photos. Felt a bit stupid when I saw the bath one; I had sort of imagined it to be yellow and curved around to the side...now that would be cool. Your blog makes amazing reading, would be great to see a map with all our locations, all of us sending love from far and wide...oh and...Gimpton (I see Jeremy Finch hasn't changed).
Ewan's jokes should come with a health warning (as ever).
Keep smiling,
and
Thank-you

Hey mate,

Great to see you yesterday even though it was a shock seeing you driving twiglet up our drive - then I realised it is left hand drive and you were in the "secondary driver's" seat. You never have been a true passenger in anything you have ever done in your life, have you?

It was also great to see the mullet starting to sprout, and Dino enjoyed hoovering up all the crumbs and sugary bits off the floor of the car.

My favourite TC joke:

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet. 'My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him? 'Well, 'says the vet, 'let's have a look at him' so he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then checks his teeth.
Finally, he says ' I'm going to have to put him down. 'What? Because he's cross-eyed?' No, because he's really heavy'

Ha!

See you soon,

Philipx

Great to see these comments from so many people - and so much GS sketch material!! I would take issue with Linzi's murdering comment though - utterly nuked it would be closer to the mark (no, not really!) The longer I'm involved with GS, the more all those songs mean (it was Jemma and Alison, by the way, Linz), and the more all the folk involved in it mean. Dicky Marshall with coconuts for tits in South Pacific, Fatnick as the circus barker, you on Front Row with Si, Jeremy, Neil, Bod et al "Putting on the Ritz", Angela and her apopleptic choreography! Happy memories, and believe me we are all rooting for you, Ali. Your attitude is forever a beacon to us all.

One HVSU skiing trip to Andorra, when we were doing all those jumps Louise was talking about, I was urged on by Claire to take on a huge jump you had simply sailed over. When I came a real cropper, I think I uttered the words "Was that high enough for you, darling?!". Well Ali, mate, you take us higher every day, and we're so proud to know you. Stay strong and stay safe.

Love Ewan
(and that's an order:-))

Just heard your news on the Kimpton / Whitwell grapevine - it's taken time as I have moved away from the area a long time ago now! Just wanted to wish you the best of luck and to let you know that me and the family are thinking of you.

Last time I think I either spoke or saw you was about 18/19 years ago after after GCSEs! It certainly sounds like you have been busy on the slopes since then - I can still remember the first ski trip to St Anton back in 86 or was it 87? A natural then I think you were - me, I have only headed back to the slopes once since then!

Keep strong mate and good to see the hair is growing back.

I will follow your progress on your blog and it would be great to catch up someday...

Cheers
Antony Goulding from Whitwell / Hitchin Boys School (bowlhead or something like that as I was back then....)
