Bonjour Everyone
Had a bad headache yesterday so spent the day sleeping after strong drugs and missed out on breakfast, lunch and supper! Doh!! Making up for it today and am on second breakfast already.
Thanks Sam and Vicky for the wicked portable chocolate supplies-looking forward to a choc feast between meals.
A big thank you to Ingrid and Grant for making super meals and looking out for my Dad and to everyone who's been so kind and sent cards and pressies.
Love

Stand by your beds - Matron's first up this morning!
Sorry to hear you had such a bad day yesterday. Sounds like you're gonna be making up for it today though!
Enjoy all your breakfasts, lunches and chocs! Thinking of you loads.

Hey Ali,
I hope you're feeling better today. Was thinking of you lots yesterday, especially when my head was banging in the evening (see, exercise is bad! Did the bike again today tho) Sleeping through meals is never good, but at least you're making up for it today. I did a quick survey at work and only one person though warm Weetabix was even edible - apparantely she used to feed it to her puppy when it was ill - but most of them were interested in the chocolate goo!
I'm planning another trip to Berko this weekend, but will check with your Mum first, as you are much in demand and I'm not sure your parents are getting much time with you themselves.
The sun was shining earlier but has gone into hiding again now - saving itself for the bank holiday perhaps?
People ask me every day how you're doing and several of my colleagues check your blog themselves, because you have made a difference to the way they view their lives.
See what you've done, Ali. Everybody hopes they'll make a difference, but you really have.
Lots of love
J-A
Hi Ali
Sorry yesterday was tough for you. We hope the double helping of brek and chocs today goes some way to make up for it!
We were on the Heathrow run from here in Watton (Norfolk) yesterday to take our son Rob back for his flight home to Taipei. He only flew in last Thursday as his footy team Exeter City (what is it with you chaps and your footy???!!!) had made it to Wembley (2nd year running) in the League play-off against Cambridge.
When he and Tony came home on Sunday evening Rob was a very happy (read drunk!) bunny as his team won 1-0. By now he should be back in his apartment by the Danshui River.
Have a happy, sunny day. We're all thinking of you and send our love and best wishes to all the Rainback family.

Hi Ali
Your photos and adventures inspired me to seize an opportunity so I've just spent 4 days in Cornwall learning to surf (courtesy of the Navy)! I know it's one of the things that you will have done very well.
I was trying really hard to ride on the crest of the wave but nearly always ended up under the surf feeling like a pair of jeans in the washing machine. I ache all over!
It doesn't half give you an appetite for Cornish pasties.
Needless to say I thought of you as I sat on my surf board and dangled my feet into the Atlantic. "Ali Rainback wouldn't give up so neither will I" - that's what I told myself.
You are a star Ali - seems to be a Rainback trait.
Love to you and your amazing family.

Have a good day!

ps Jeanette - a big big hug to you
Hi Ali,
Enjoy tucking in to your tucker today. All the more appreciated after a day away I'm sure.
A little concerned about this anti - hot weetabix thing however. I've never given it a shot myself but as you know, us Scots are well into our steaming bowls of oaty goodness and as 'they' say don't knock it 'till you've tried it.
Awrabest, have a wonderful holiday - I'm off to see Jason next week and tear him away from his studies for a wee while. Ali, we will celebrate some Sunshine on Leith with a wee dram to you.
No gunners but hope you get a chance to enjoy the game tomorrow.
Love Dave M

Dearest Ali
So sorry to hear you had a rough day yesterday, sleep was probably the best way to get through it. We have no doubts that you can make up for it today eating all the goodies that come your way.
As everyone else keeps commenting about hot milk on Weetabix, ask David, he eats it most days and wouldn't have it otherwise, I prefer cold milk but obviously it is a matter of taste!
Hope that you have a good day today and perhaps a trip outside in Chorlton, the sun does keep trying to shine and it's definitely warmer than the last couple of days.
All our love and hugs to you Ali and to your mum, dad, Jeanette, Si, Jo and all the Rainback crew. Keep smiling
xxxxxx

Hey Ali,
From everything Scott has told me about you & the Aplinos, along with us both keeping a close eye in the blog I feel like I know you so well! (plus all your warm weetabix stories make me feel 5 years old again!) Thinking of you and wishing you & your family well.

Hi Ali,
You don't know me, but I did my Grade 3 a few years back and also did a season in Courchevel. We never met, but I sure knew who you were: the "Mr. New Gen!" A real BASI legend...
Your blog has been inspiring and since I first checked in a few days ago, I've really been doing a lot of thinking about you and your family. Not many folks will have been able to touch so many people in their lifetime like you have. Not just from this blog, but going back to all the people you have taught to ski. People who will have caught the skiing bug from you personally, as well as from the others you have employed from your fantastic ski school! And these people will then pass on this love to their own friends and family for generations to come. Probably changing quite a few lives in the process as well.
Quite a great acheivement...you should be very proud of all you've accomplished and of all the people you have inspired to follow their dreams!
Best wishes Ali!
Dear Ali,
We are thinking of you every day, following your blog and enjoying the photo updates. You are such a lovely guy Ali and it shows so clearly through all the comments. Hope you enjoy your double helpings today after missing yesterday's menu. Remember the basement.....it was so much brighter when you were there too! I hope I can send some cheery thoughts from the Highlands, it is so beautiful here just now with the warm sunny weather. The kids have been on the beach building sandcastles and paddling everyday....Oh yes, the sun has reached this far north too!
Lots of love to you and all the Rainbacks, keep strong, you are always in our thoughts.

Stay tough mate, always thinking of you.

Hello mate,
Bed must be the best place in the world to be when you're suffering so it was a good call to spend all of yesterday in it. Glad to hear you have your appertite back again and I'd better not let Belle anywhere near you at the moment or you'd lose all that choccie stash.
Wsa thinking today that it was 2 years ago today that me and you set off from Annecy to Paris to meet Matt and Fat Nick for the Champions League Final, but the journey took far longer than expected in my little rollerskate (including our F1 wheel change on route) and we ended up staying at a hotel I'd booked on the outskirts of Paris. I rmrmber being starving and tucking into a fine meal and a good bottle of red and talking all night about team selection and how much we'd spend on tickets. The following day we had a reality check when tickets were changing hands for 3000€ so we took Matt 50p site-drinking tour of Paris and found a bar just off Les Champs Elyses where we tucked into burgers and guinness. Excepting the result it was a bloody brilliant time. Well I've just recieved my tickets for wembley on Saturday so I will be thinking of you and yours when I'm singing "Come on you Reds", take care and keeping smiling.

Hi Ali,
Just to let you know we are all thinking about you and praying for you every day.
Keep the pics coming; its so nice to see them and read your blog,

Dear Alistair,
yes I too am sick & tired of people knocking Weetabix warm or cold. It is the most ecologically sound product on the planet. What other easily available food product can claim that it is cut out directly from the chipboard carcasses of old mouldy kitchen units?? My son eats it in the mornings.
He is making progress too in his little battle with autism... He has been dry a few nights running & his communication is getting much much better.
New job has turned me around this week....
Gone is Port Canto in Cannes, pretty girls, pretty boats & doing not too much.....
Arrived is getting there at 7.20am in the morning, arrived is really working all (all) day....
Arrived is chasing concrete all day....
Lovely food for supper & bed early...things are looking up after a **** day....
God's very best blessings to you all.. Alistair, Jeanette & all the Rainbacks

Here's today's Gang Show song. It's by Daniel O'Donnell, and we used it in the finale of our 2006 Show. It talks of flame, light, a beacon. Ali, your example has been a beacon to us all. Knowing you is something we all treasure, and this song's for you, mate.
Just one little candle can shine through the night, a symbol of faith;
A flame that keeps burning, that never stops turning the darkness away:
Light a candle to start a new dawn, let it be like a prayer,
And together we’ll shine in a moment of time we can share
Light a candle to start a new dawn.
Life is for giving for those who are living in love’s ray of light;
And life is for caring, so never stop sharing your beacon so bright.
Light a candle to start a new dawn, let it be like a prayer,
And together we’ll shine in a moment of time we can share
Light a candle to start a new dawn.
We can unite the world from one tiny spark.
It’s better to light a candle than curse the dark.
Light a candle to start a new dawn, let it be like a prayer,
And together we’ll shine in a moment of time, yes a moment of time we can share
Light a candle to start a new dawn.
Love from Ewan xxx
Hi Ali
Just wanted to say that I've been reading your blog and thinking about you and everyone around you. The photos are great - especially the ones of the views in Courchevel and I wanted you to see a couple that I took this winter. (I've tried to befriend you on facebook and put them up there!). Well you are certainly re-inspiring me to keep on with that old nemesis, the ISIA, and to live the dream in the mountains!! Keep at it you old lightweight! Love from Caroline Nickerson
hey ali,
so reds or blues then? bit of a turmoil, as my brother is man utd, my nephew chelsea... so somewhere in the family heads will roll!
so sorry to hear yesterday was rubbish - I hope today's been much sunnier all round. I'm just back from a trip to norway, got in and logged on to catch up with you, and as usual am blown away by all the comments - so many saying 'you dont know me but..."
how amazing you are - my life is far richer for knowing you thats for sure and I'm just one of many.
I was thinking the other day about the course in andorra we met on (when you passed your 1 and I didn't ha ha) and all your silly noises and impressions of dubbed chinese films... far more fun than the skiing..
just picked chisp up and he's soaking wet but no swimming injuries this time!
thinking of you lots, big hugs to you and all the family, and hello to Martin and Deidre, Sally C, Sheila...
hope the sun shines with you tomorrow,
love Katie

Hi Ali, So sorry yesterday was a non-starter and glad today is better.'Thought of you today while I was playing a tennis match! Our team were cannon-fodder to the opposition-HOWEVER with Ali Rainback's 'never give up' mantra in mind I deprived the illustrious ladies on the other side of the net of some very precious points-ha ha!!! Thanks for that Ali.Have a comfortable night and a good day tomorrow. Love to you and your family Ali. Nora Pirie x
