WE'RE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN!

Dear Friends

As you can imagine the last seven weeks have been very tough both mentally and emotionally and doing Ali’s blog proved to be just too much. As it was such a marvellous vehicle for everyone and new friendships were made and many old ones renewed, we felt we must keep it going as a valuable way of keeping in touch with you all. So here we are!

We have been working hard behind the scenes, though, and as you can see the money’s rolling in: www.justgiving.com/alirainback which is such a wonderful tribute to Ali. Thank you for being so generous in your giving and let’s exceed our target and ‘keep on keeping on’ for such a worthy cause.

We intend to create a Charity to enable us to get some serious corporate sponsorship and help with publicity, which we will let you know about as soon as it's set up. We want to use ‘Ali was a STAR’ as our theme and will need a logo incorporating a star and which epitomises Ali and all he meant, so any ideas would be most welcome. Are there any graphic designers out there who’d be willing to help design tee-shirts, posters etc?

We have many events in the pipeline and will publish details in due course but in the meantime please note:

Ski for a STAR: Courchevel 10th April 2009

Kimpton to Courchevel Cycle Challenge: 6-13th June 2009

Watch this space for further information and send any suggestions to: dianarainback@aol.com but please share your ideas with us on the blog and let us know about anything you’re planning so we can support you.

With Love

Team Rainback

ps We would still love any photos and memories of Ali that you may have and thank those of you who so kindly sent them-they mean a great deal to us.

Hi Team Rainback,

I still think you are all so amazing given everything.

I would love to give a little bit more to the fund over the next wee while by buying a t-shirt or whatever. Every little bit helps.

Have been thinking of you all the last wee while.

The new pics are wonderful.

You all take care of yourselves.

Lots of love and best wishes.

Hey Team Rainbow,

Glad to have you back. We all of course completely understand why you haven't blogged but are glad you are keeping it going. I, like many others, have continued to check the blog pretty much daily, if nothing else to re read lots of the amazing messages and to look at Ali's fab photos. I have pointed people in the direction of the blog for a host of reasons. I had one friend who was feeling really sorry for herself and just couldn't see her way through the day and I told her to read Ali's blog. It really helped her to see that she actually could get through her particular bad patch and that she had huge amounts for which to be thankful. I had another friend who is really into photography and again I said check out Ali's photos and we had long conversations about photography (I know nothing - I point and shoot my shiny red digital camera and hope for the best!) which was lovely because we hadn't had a long chat in ages.

Today I got a photo on my mobile of of two eggs sitting in shiny chicken shaped egg cups - I know - he's getting worse. He's been off work this week on holiday and I'm not sure he's been taking the medication....

Anyway, I have been working my socks off for the last few months and am so excited to have all of next week off. We are going to visit the elderly in Cornwall, take a pile of books and either wander around ruins, fishing villages and beautiful gardens or just sit in the sun and not think about work. I really want to try that buggy thing with the big kite attached that you sit in and skim along the beach (am I delusional or does someone know what I'm talking about?). I mentioned it at work today and the new young management accountant said - and you could see him trying to SUCK the words back into his mouth as he realised what he'd said "Oh, the cart isn't very big, I don't think you'd fit" as I do have a somewhat sizeable rump. You know that bit in the movies with the tumbleweed... He was despatched very smartly to make the tea - and not to come back without cake! Sadly, he has a point but I still really fancy it!

Having got back from work at a reasonable time tonight I am going to go to bed before midnight. I might even experiment with the fake tan before I do so. I used one three weeks ago which was a disaster. I mean, I'm very bad at applying it anyway but this was minging even by my standards. It was supposedly a no streaks ultra fine mist spray thingy. I won't tell you who it's made by but "you're worth it". You could actually see the drips - like someone had painted a wall really badly. My toes and knees were orange and large areas of my legs were still white. I suppose it was a look - just not the one I was going for. I looked like a giraffe but without the endlessly long legs! And of course had it been perfectly, evenly applied it would have lasted about two days - I've been using salt scrub every day and it's only just gone. Anyway, I'll see if I'm brave enough to try the other one or will have settle for being pale and du... interesting.

I'm planning on raising money craft fair stylee by using my dressmaking skills - I have a few ideas of suitable items for manufacture and sale but if anyone else has any please, please let me know.

Apolgies for the babbling and lots of love to you all. Keep in touch.

Hello Team Rainback,

Good to see and hear from you out there in cyber-space. We are heading back to France in a couple of weeks but will keep logging in to see what is happening and will support anything we can. Look forward to catching up with all the usual suspects and come on the Arsenal off with a roaring 1 nil thrashing of WBA to kick the season off.

Keep smiling

I guess today will be a very difficult day for all ALI's family and friends as according to the just giving page its ALI's birthday today

I just came across the blog by accident about an hour ago and have looked at all the lovely pics and read all the stories - this has been a great help to me to understand more of what happens with these things

My sister had a similar diagnosis and decided (much against our wishes) not to submit to either therapies (radio/chemo) - she was hospitalised for 6 weeks (due to worsening problems with her sight) and then had a further 3 weeks at home - we've just had the 4-year anniversary of her passing away

She accepted what we all coudn't and right from the start decided to await whatever destiny lay ahead

I'm sure you will all look back on this blog and be able to keep hold of important memories of ALI and i'm so glad he was well enough for the trips and you made it back to France etc

- unfortunately I only had 3 short hospital visits with my sister and she didn't reveal the prognosis to us so it was all a very big shock to the family - but we have to accept that this was what she wanted - she didn't want any fuss

my thoughts are with you all - hope your day was filled with happy memories of ALI - he looks a real fun guy

bless x

Hey All,

Just wanted to say I'm thinking about you today and celebrating Ali's birthday! It's especially poignant for me and my family as yesterday my Uncle, who also had a brain tumour, died in hospital. He was a sweetie too so I figure the pair of them will be watching us all with big grins and swapping dog stories!

Anyway, we are thinking of Ali and all of you - especially Diana who will be firewalking on Thursday to raise more pennies for the Hospice. Go Big D!!!!

Lots of love to Team Rainbow and all the bloggers - I'm sure you're still looking at the blog even if you're not writing on it.

I have been thinking about Ali a lot lately, although I never met him. I had been following the blog for the last year and I learned so much from him. Ali has really changed my life in a lot of ways and I will always remember him, although we never met.
I hope Team Rainback is keeping well! I think about Ali every time I am looking down from the Alps to the valley...he is there with me then...and makes me appreciate everything that tiny little bit more! Thank you!

I read a great quote the other day that I thought summed Ali up completely and is, because of Ali, how I am doing all I can to live my life....

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain"

Ali - still teaching!!
