Bonjour folks!
Just back from treatment number 19 so nearly, nearly down to single figures. I can't wait. I'm dreaming up my exit strategy, assuming I feel well - back home to France to the log fires (that's my job!) and everything else that is home. I feel like I'm knocking England a bit and of course I would never put down living here, it's just that I get up (with a dry mouth), shower, clothes, faff for about 2 hours, A1, Fichley Road, zapped by Buzzy, sandwiches (marmite and cucumber were the winner today mum...thank you!) Fichley Road, A1, sleep for 3 or 4 hours, shower, dinner and then away with the dry mouth again. It's not England's fault. I'd probably be saying the same if I was in France.
Thank you so much for your suggestions regarding getting rid of metallic mouth. Sucking frozen pineapple and eating peardrops is my favourite. Not long to go and then we're done.
Once treatment has finished I have 8/10 weeks before they scan my brain and see what the story is. We'll have a meeting with my consultant Dr Wilson, Dr Amanda and hopefully Alison (please no more blood sugar test ;-) Then it's D-Day for Think Shrink. I plan to live life to the absolute full until then and I hope you'll do the same.
Best thing that happened to me today?
Sitting in a Porsche looking at my Dad grinning from ear to ear. Brilliant! Do it Dad!
Love

Hey buddy....apparantley you were spotted today in the Porsche garage in Hatfield! I hope you weren't contemplating purchasing without the 'expert' advice from Jumbo!
Am back in Herts on Friday night if you are around and then first thing on Saturday morning, i've got the Verbier video to show you.

Hey you.
I'm glad to hear the steroids are being reduced. My cousin is on steroids at the moment and she says that if she was painted green she could be a Shrek lookalike!
I just heard you on the phone to Bill (office next to mine) and he told me that you are on good form which I'm thrilled to hear.
Best thing that happened to me today....6th day without a cigarette, that's got to be good. Oh and my 5 year old daughter, Malika, heading out to school with her brother but coming back in to tell me 'You better be careful Mama it's really slippy'. I just liked the irony of the role reversal!
I do the 'best thing that happened to you today' with the kids now at dinner time, I love it. It just keeps everyone focussed on the positive.
I hear you may be planning coming up to see us. You know the Cairngorms have got fantastic snow at the moment. Everything around the office here has a dusting of white stuff, it's crisp and fresh and it looks lovely. Great for walks good Scottish fresh air.
So we hope to see you soon.
Lots of love (thinkshrink)

Hi Ali
Really good news about the steroids and that you are nearly into single figures! That light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter all the time!
Just to let you know that thinkshrink has now moved from the slopes of Zermatt back to Welwyn Garden City and now being spread around the girls' school near Hertford! Did you ever wonder how sayings at school started and where? Its going to be the latest craze - kids chanting in the playground!
Best wishes to you and jeanette

Dear Alistair,
thanks for the blog today, enjoyed it.....a bit tired and miserable today....best thing of the day was in fact reading the blog & imagining your dad's smiling face!!!! .... I really loved the wig photos too where you were all laughing.
Are you sure masking the metallic taste is the way to go???
There is an alternative therapy for this side effect called funily enough "Ali Gum"
1)Take square of aluminium foil
12cms x 12 cms
2)Carefully fold into standard Wrigleys gum shape
3)Chew "Ali Gum"' for 12 - 15 minutes
4)Observe the de-sensitising effect on you taste buds.
You might like to run this alternative therapy past your doctor before trying it. "Ali Gum" is not yet tested & may be dangerous.
God bless you Alistair & Jeanette

Dude,
The absolute best cure for dry-mouth is the cans of Evian 'volumiser' they give you on planes to spray on your face during long-hall flights (unless you're in economy then they give you nada)....
Take this from someone who has woken up with many hangovers on long-hall flights suffering from a much less acute version of dry-mouth... Get a can of the Evian stuff.. stick the nozzle in your cake hole and spray those dry-mouth blues away!!
The best thing that happened to me today was I woke up with a terrible cold so am likely to spend the afternoon at home playing Nintendo.. Schweeeeet!

Hey Ali
Best thing for the metallic taste is really strong flavour- maybe not straight to the vindaloo but anything herby or spicy - and don't eat too much of your favourite stuff in case you go off it. Save it for after the buzzy machine when your taste gets better
Take care - thinkshrink!

Hey Hello Ali
Firstly here's just a wee note to say that all your friends in the North East of Scotland are thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Lots of positive vibes directed towards you coming from that part of the world!
Secondly your blog is brilliant and it really is amazing to see how positive it is. Here is to seeing you in Megeve in June on that bike!
Hugs and love to all
Summersx
Hi mate,
Vindaloo or frozen pineapple sounds better than chewing ali foil to me!
Hope all goes well today. Jeanette leaving back to France will be tough but remember the rest of us are here for you and we will do all in our power to support you.
Just think - after tomorrow's treatment you will be down to single figures and the countdown to the Great Escape begins in earnest!
See you in the morning,
Philip
Hi Ali - I only heard about your tumour and the blog last night while exchanging e-mails with Tom. Shocked to hear the news, but the blog is great, really inspirational, and you're clearly taking on this challenge with great courage. We're adding our family's collective "thinkshrink" thoughts to the collective mantra, so you can put a big pin in the map for the Staffordshire Moorlands.
If you're not familiar with Sigur Ros check out the link for some strangely inspirational sounds / pictures.

I guess you'll be in single figures when you read this which is great news.
See you on the hill!

Hi Ali
Just to let you know....
Type 'THINKSHRINK' into Goolgle and your Blog is 7th! Thats pretty impressive.
Type 'How to get rid of matallic taste in mouth' into Google and top of the list is this advice from Elimitaste:
Many individuals who suffer from dry mouth issues also deal with sour, metallic tastes in their mouths. This metallic taste often goes hand in hand with bad breath and is very unpleasant for those suffering from it. Some people attempt to eat to mask this metallic taste, but find it only comes back later.
We at ElimiTaste have figured out how to get rid of that unpleasant, metallic taste. We recommend drinking plenty of water and chewing our ElimiTaste Zapp! or SmokeScreen gum. Our ElimiTaste Zapp! gum is sugar-free, so it will not cause tooth decay, and boasts a powerful ElectraMint flavor. Our Zapp! gum provides longer-lasting flavor and breath freshening than the leading, mass-marketed gums.
Now, I am not suggesting that you have bad breath but gum may not be a bad idea!
Keep Zapping through those tunnels.
Love Lysandra
If you want a giggle just type in Catherine Tate and Daniel Craig into youtube....and watch the giggles flow...BRILLIANT.
