Wednesday Morning

Bonjour everyone!

I'm still in bed and it's 10am...great! Yesterday worked out to be a super day in terms of how I felt and structured the day. It was simple. I woke up at 6am, wrote my blog and generally messed around on my laptop, had breakfast at 9am, went straight back to bed and slept until 3pm!! Awesome. I'm learning so much about my body, it really needs so much sleep at the moment. Once again, Alison was right but I guess I needed to see for myself. Now I'm staying in bed unless I need to be out of it. Funnily enough the sun is shining through the window today and all the web cams are showing snow in France..awesome. Today is good.

My friend Paul kindly took me for a late session last night. After a great cake in Bebos in Welwyn we made our way. The appointment was supposed to be 6.30 because one of the machines was out for servicing. We got there at 5.30 and the waiting room was empty. Doh! No fear one of the girls came out and got me, in and out. 7 went to 6 and we had the quickest zapping of all time. Great. I'm really happy. Top journey home......thanks Paul.

I got home to have a shower and looked in the mirror. Now, I've never been the most handsome of people but I'm a bit messed up at the moment. My hair has fallen out around the sides - it looks like a flat top style cut. The skin is red now (and a itchy, itchy, itchy), there are the scars of the holes where they put the brain biopsy cradle on my head, there is the brain biopsy bore hole scar and finally I've got hamster cheeks (thanks for the description Tony...spot on). Good job I'm engaged!

So, I feel much, much better and that, I am sure, is a result of more sleep. I'm not moving from my bed here until I've slept some more. I've just told myself to sleep as much as I can and it's great.

I guess my head will clear up but they're not sure my hair will grow back....doh! Least of my problems though.

Love

Ali

Sleep is the best healer, so keep going with that!

It's dumping down with snow today,it still amazes me how much snow can fall.

Anyway, get your rest today and see you soon!!

Hey Ali,

Stuck at home today blowing chunks (apologies to the faint hearted) as a result of dodgy oysters last night - at least, I'm blaming the oysters.

What's this nonsense about you not being handsome?! Ok I've not seen you for nigh on 20 years but I seem to remember you scrubbed up ok and the pictures on your blog aren't exactly monstrous! Actually showed someone at work one of the gang show pictures yesterday and they said "good looking boy", so stop talking codswallop. However, worryingly they did seem to think Blondie Bennett look like Daniel Craig - that Facebook photo might not be a coincidence. Have you ever seen them both in the same place at the same time? Just a thought.....

Anyway, bald is sexy. Jean Luc Picard - who wouldn't???

Going back to bed myself and might study a bit of tax while I'm there - Oh I'm just a bundle of laughs today!

Glad to see you're finally taking all the advice you've been given - keep up the good work. Stay in bed, read about Dastardly Dogs and Thrink Shrink.

Lots of love

Hi Ali,

Pleased to hear you had a good day yesterday and hope today will be just as good. I'm a true believer of sleep being a great healer, so keep snoozing. And don't worry about losing your hair, it only means you can buy more hats!

Take care,
love Simone xx

If I could be bothered, I would see what percentage of posts to this blog are posted by ladies, Ali. About 90%, I guess!

Glad to hear you are getting lots of sleep. I am sure your body is telling you it needs it and fighting it won't help at all.

Keep on keeping on, mate.

Philip

PS Tracked Oli down in AdH!

Hi Ali
Glad to hear that the sun is shining on you. It's shining up here in Edinburgh day too but as per usual I'm stuck in the office (OK so I'm taking a break to write this!). I'm off to Glenshee on Saturday to test out the great Scottish snow/slush/mud.....I'll let you know what it was like - in fact the first time I was there was back in 1986 with HVSU, I think Simon was there too.
A suggestion from my Mum - the best cream for your skin is Biafine (think that's the way to spell it). Ask your friends in France to get it for you as I'm not sure if you can get it here. We've used it for sunburn when we've been in France and it is the best thing ever.
Hope the rest of your Wednesday is great
Love and Hugs

Hi Ali,

Talk about fishing for compliments - careful they don't go to your head, it needs shrinking, not swelling..!! I shall only add, do you really think Jeanette would be engaged to a frog?

Counting down the days with you now - let's hope they're all as sunny as this one's been!

Bon repose,
with love from us both, L & R

Hi Ali
What is really scary is you don't really look any different from the cheeky so and so who always had an answer for everything all those years ago in Ventures!! Up at 4am this morning to get to Amsterdam with work - and slept the whole way home this evening - the power of sleep is good for everyone. Keep well and thinking shrinking thoughts - I have them saying it in Dutch at work now!! Sally W

Dear Alistair,
good to read the Blog & all the lovely comments... Dont take all that losing hair stuff seriously in fact don't worry at all...with or without hair you will never look as good as your dad with the wig on in photo option number 1.(the colour photo).

Got sent this email film about landing at Courchevel airport...Scary.

http://marcbrecy.neuf.fr/courchevel.html

Went upto the infamous Greolieres les Neige (1400m - 1800m) today with my son... why was no one there stacks of snow + wednesday schools off day???? It rained there this morning...A sad sad affair. We had fun today though.

Up in the Mercantour Parc (isola auron etc) there are avalanches all over the place, apparently will take a while to clear all the routes.

Someone I've never met sent us 2 books for Christmas, a colleague of my cousins who has an autistic child also.....

As you well know despite all the bad, there can be great goodness & kindness in this world....

Take heart... I look bad with or without my hair

God bless

Part Three

The man looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognise the person he has become. An unfamiliar, battle scarred face stares back at him, bearing the marks of the healing treatment. He is not happy with what he sees, so he writes to tell them this and waits for their response…..they read what he writes and they are surprised too, for each of them carry memories of the man that are as clear now as the day he first passed through their lives. As friend, neighbour, colleague, son, or brother, they can see him before them. They write to reassure him, and joke with him, to tell him what they see and how they remember his face. It is not simply the placement of the features, it is how the eyes light up with recognition or understanding, the way the mouth moves as it talks or laughs, the million different ways he responds to those around him. We can see you Ali, for who you are, beyond how you feel right now.

Hi Ali

Loved the picture of you skiing, oh that I could do that! Keep snoozing for as long as you need and do not worry about your hair, it'll be cool in the summer and you'll be wearing a hat most of the winter when you're back on the slopes.

Love as ever to you and all your family. Christine xx
